BlankIt occurred to me last night between the slow 40 meter QSO's that I =
should send the following to those of you that have Icom 756's Pro's and =
other 2 vfo rigs that have the following capability.=20
I am sure that some of you have good ways to run 2 VFO's on 40 meters =
for the split operation,=20
but I have found that the following is the fastest and easiest for me. =
You might try it.
By pushing the "split" button and holding it, you get the two VFO's on =
the same frequency,
and the lower register goes "dark" which means that is the VFO =
controlled by the main tuning knob.
Next push the "tuning speed" button to get the little arrow over the =
freq. and get 1 KHz tuning.=20
This is the fast way to get from freq to freq as you set your transmit =
freq to that announced by the DX station.=20
Now here is the fun part. turn on your RIT for the recieved frequency. =
It will go +/- 10 KHz. =20
BUT--- If you tune up or down anywhere in that 20 KHz range, and then =
press and HOLD the RIT button for 1 second, it will reset the RIT to =
ZERO and add or subtract the RIT amount to the Recieve register.=20
You can go all the way up or down the band without ever having to switch =
the recieve register to the main knob. This makes it easy.=20
You will never transmit on the wrong VFO, since you are always in split. =
You will never loose a station by turning the wrong knob while trying =
to set the TX freq., since that is the OTHER knob. You can tune in 2 =
stations, and work one while waiting for the other, by quick touching =
the RIT and toggling from the set freq to the RIT freq. =20
If you play with this a bit, you will see how easy it is to do. If you =
have another rig, that does the same function-- i.e. add or subtract the =
RIT freq by holding the button down, you can do this with any rig the =
same way. =20
Last night was a bit poor on 40 SSB, I only worked 80 Countries. I hope =
the band opens up tonight. I talekd to some others, who said 80 and 160 =
sucked... ditto for 40. =20
y'all have fun and don't eat too much contest chili or chocolate or =
whatever keeps you awake. =20
The runs in hte middle of a run can be a bitch.=20
73,=20
