DX Information:
T30ES - Western Kiribati
After spending the holidays back into the United States, with his family,
Eric (N1JSY) returned to Western Kiribati on January 8th. While stateside
he met with members of his support team, sharing his adventures on the
island of Butaritari with the Peace Corps. Eric is planning to install a
second antenna, an inverted V. In addition, arrangements have been made
for obtaining a new higher capacity battery. This should extend his
operating time. T30ES operates on battery power, charged daily by solar
panels. Eric frequently operates Saturdays at 1400 UTC and Thursdays from
1830 UTC around 14.288. He is on at other times, as his work schedule
allows. In December, Eric used his equipment coordinating the emergency
medical evacuation of a native having complications during childbirth. The
mother and child were reported doing well in a Tarawa hospital. This action
proving that amateur radio is not just DX but a valuable resource in an
emergency. For more information, photographs and updates, on this
operation check http://people.mags.net/boem/kiribati1.htm
