Steve,
I must have missed part one of your antenna saga.
In any case I just finished my tower installation in Redington Beach
Florida. This town is on the Gulf Coast just out side of St. Petersburg on a
barrier reef. My wife fell in love with the house in December of 2001 and I
found myself as the new owner the last week in February. I don't know how
far into the process of getting your tower approved so I'll give you my saga
from the beginning.
Before buying the house I contacted the town of Redington Beach and advised
them I was planing to buy a house and wanted to put up a tower. I was tolled
PRB1 is recognized so I am exempt from all building setbacks but need to get
the approval of the building department for a building permit. I was given
there phone number and so I contacted them. I spoke to the head inspector
and asked what he needed from me so a building permit could be issued for my
tower. The requirements were a set of stamped drawings, also known as "Wet
Seal" from a Florida Engineer using the Southern Standard Building Code
certifying the tower would handle 110 Mph winds with an antenna on it. I was
also told there were no tower height limitations. We discussed my options
and agreed on a crankup tower in the fully retracted position. I called Jay
from array solutions and he introduced me to and Engineer. I told him what I
needed and a couple of weeks later I had the package in my hands. My wife
and I closed on the house and the next day I went to the building
Department. In about a half hour and $24 later I had my permit. The tower
went up November 18th this year. It is a HDX-589 MDPL by US Tower.
My best advise to you is find out what you need to do. Get a complete list
of everything you need to do by asking the Building Department. After you
get everything on the list give it to them as a completed package. Doing it
this way should cut out the "oh by the way and what about this" the old
run-a-round. The rules are the same for everyone just find out what they
are, comply and get your permit. Just before the tower went up I got a
permit to put a fence around the tower. By the way, this one went for $49.
The day after the tower went up I installed the fence. While I was doing
this a couple of town officers driving by honked there car horn. We waved at
each other and off they went. That night I went to a town meeting sat in the
front row and said hello to everyone. Not a word was mentioned about the
tower. It was all done by the book, there book.
