Minutes of the South Florida DX Association, July 10, 2002

The meeting was called to order by President Bill Marx, W2CQ at 7:33 P. M.
The sign in page of members and visitors is attached.

A 'Sound Off' of countries confirmed by members and visitors present was
conducted. Lots of Honor Roll members here tonight.

The Membership Chairman, Mark, WA2YMX, advised us of a prospective
member, WD4OAY, Chris Veverka has applied for membership.

The Secretary, Gil, W1RG, not having prepared the minutes of the
previous meeting, presented the summary provided by Bill, W2CQ.

The Treasurers report was presented by John, K4WJ. The report is
attached. A MOTION by Pete, N8PR, SECONDED by Steve,W4DTR, was approved
by acclamation.

The hospital, now aware of the communications capabilities of the club,
has requested volunteers to staff K4FK during local emergencies. Joe,
W4SAA and Bob, W4RL volunteered their services.

Old Business
Pete, N8PR had advised the SFDXA of the need in Jamaica of a high school
station for transmitting and receiving equipment for their club
station. Pete advised us that gil, W1RG had donated his TS-830S, remote
VFO, MC-50 mic and operators and service manuals to the school.

During the inventory of equipment at our club station K4FK, it was
decided that the adequacy of our SB-220 linear amp is marginal for
contest operations. We need WARC band capabilities, and an updated
power supply. Ed has offered to pay for modifications to the equipment,
however it would be more appropriate for the club to assume this
responsibility. The cost of a more modern amplifier would unnecessarily
strain our club's treasury. We have a set of duplexers available to sell
which would help defray some of this expense. After discussion, no
decision was made on this matter. We will be on the lookout for a
suitable replacement amplifier.

The meeting was adjourned, and Tom, N4TL provided us with an excellent
presentation of the evolution of Intel CPUs and associated PC mother
board design as used by IBM.
