Brennan said he recently learned of a less expensive fix using communication
technology known as crossband. He said the system uses two radio repeaters
that are able to translate the signals from the different radio systems. The
crossband technology uses a dedicated frequency so city officers and county
deputies only need to flip a dial on their portable radios when they want to
talk.
