Landeen had waded up to his chest in the chilly  water and was about to swim 
the final 15 yards to the boat. "The gentleman had a  rope tied around his 
wrist, so he was staying with the boat," Williams said. "He  had a lifejacket on, 
which probably saved his life. He couldn't respond when we  threw a line to 
him. He was hypothermic, and he was fatigued from the waves and  being in the 
water."
