Volunteer Victims Needed for May 1 Exercise at Fairfax County Fire & Rescue
Academy
A mass-casualty exercise will be held on Sunday May 1st at the Fairfax County
Fire & Rescue Academy, located at 4550 West Ox Road, between U.S. Rt. 29
(Lee
Highway) and U.S. Rt. 50, near I66 west of Fairfax, VA. This large exercise
will
have over 70 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) students from three
classes participating and will take placeover the entire Fire Academy campus
.
Appoximately 120 "victims" are needed to provide a realistic disaster
simulation.
Victim volunteers must be at least 15 years old. Those under 18 must be
accompanied by a parent or guardian. Anyone interested in volunteering to be
a
victim for this May 1 exercise should be at the Fire Academy by 0930 for
moulage. Please wear clothes that can be stained and possibly torn. Wear
several
layers of clothing to stay warm and bring rain gear. Also bring snacks and
bottled water or a bag lunch. Victims will be processed inside the academy
and
only lead outside just prior to the start of the exercise. The exercise is
scheduled to start at approximately 1200 or 1230 and will last until about 3
pm.
VA_EmCom encourages radio amateurs, GMRS users or others interested in CERT
to
join existing teams or offer to assist in organizing new teams in their
neighborhoods or work sites. Volunteering to be a "victim" is a great opportunity
to learn about FEMA's CERT program and experience it "up close and
personal." For more information about CERT, please visit the web site:
