I agree. For most products like cables, their prices are high. I can
and do order stuff like that from a mail order supplier. Since our sales
tax is over 8%, I can shop via mail ,order in quantity, and still save
even after shipping if I shop wisely.
I figured having them program the radio fell into the nothing to lose
category. If they had Seattle's elaborate trunking system programmed, it
would be a major time saver. If not, it would be a quick check of the
radio. I also was curious to see what cable/software combination they
were using. As it turned out, all that they programmed in was a generic
"national" list of freqs, though clearly part of the intent seems to be
that dealers take the time to customize their list for local usage, this
store had not done so.
But as it turned out, I saw their new cable perform, and it did just
fine. The clerk had opened up a new package. When he was done, he
started to apologize for the fact that he didn't have any more cables in
unopened packages. I'll take one I just saw tested-- any time of the
week. :-}
