Camden County's 9-1-1 system will soon receive new hardware and programming 
to solve a communications problem between some police stations.The upgrade will 
specifically affect Camden and Cherry Hill's police departments, which 
communicate on different frequencies than the rest of the county.Currently, police 
officers in the two communities can't speak directly to counterparts in 
surrounding towns. So, if a Camden or Cherry Hill officer chases a suspect into 
Collingswood, he cannot quickly call for local backup, and vice versa."It's not 
only a safety issue for the public, it's a safety issue for the police as well," 
Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi said Monday.The $50,000 patch 
upgrade should link the county's two largest police departments to the Central 
Communications Center in Lindenwold by late January.
