I gotta agree with Rob here.  I've used both the BC-250 and the PRO-96, 
and the PRO-96 beats the BC-250 hands down, IMHO.  But Rob is also right 
when he said that you should try both scanners first, and see which one 
is to your liking.  There is no right answer.  The one that is right for 
you is the one you should use.

Having said that, I use a PRO-96.  And I am about as professionally 
involved with police and fire communications as you can get.  I say that 
tongue-in-cheek, because "professionalism" has little to do with 
purchasing a scanner, IMHO.  Choosing a scanner based on it's (or anyone 
else's) "professionalism" is akin to putting magnetic signs and yellow 
lights on your car, for the "professional look".  Purely window dressing.

Rob's right.  Use what works for you, and have fun!
