[ScanIndiana] (no subject) Harrison County

I'd like to add something to this thread.
Considering how much money is being spread around
for "spectrum" these days, and how much value is
alleged to be put on that "spectrum" I will point
out that in a case where some police dept. or whoever
moves OFF from some frequency, eventually you can be
pretty certain that someone else WILL use it.
In our area here in Lafayette while a fair piece of
County communications has moved to trunking up
in the 800's, frequencies down in the region of
148 and up as well as the 462 ambulance/medical
stuff have NOT been abandoned. Nor are they likely
to be abandoned if indeed they are as valuable
as the "spectrum speculators" would like you to
think they are.
So don't give up the ship - while some agencies may
indeed encrypt for security reasons and yes, that will
irritate us as scanner enthusiasts, my gut tells me that
there will be stuff to listen to for long, long time
to come.

Not sure what you mean, Rick.
If you are referring to speculation that the scanning hobby may be on its
way out due to encryption and proprietary protocls, well that depends. In
some areas, that is the case now, but that is because the agencies involved
want it that way. Right now there are not that many of them. My personal
opinion is that it will be a long time if ever before that happens.
If you wouldnn't mind forwarding the posts provately and not to the list, I
will be happy to offer my opinion.
