[ScanIndiana]FRS Info

Terry,

Most stores, car lots, etc. use them now. I hear everyone from painters to
our local Cracker Barrel using them. Probably put the hurts on the local
two-way guys who were supplying the license equipment. There's usually
plenty of room still, just use CTCSS/PL codes and you should be okay.

Well, I used to think that I had heard something to the effect of what you
mention, in that FRS (I don't believe there is such a thing as "FMRS",
there's FRS and GMRS) was not to be used for business related traffic.
However, I checked the FCC's web site
  (http://wireless.fcc.gov/services/personal/family/), and found the
following: "Family Radio Service (FRS) is one of the Citizens Band Radio
Services. It is used by family, friends and associates to communicate within
a neighborhood and while on group outings and has a communications range of
less than one mile. You can not make a telephone call with an FRS unit. You
may use your FRS unit for business-related communications."

So, it talks like it is intended to be used in a "non-business" activity,
but then it says you can. Kind of typical government "double-talk", no?

One good thing about these radios is that they normally have at least 14
channels (on the FRS only units). So, if you are getting interference on
one channel, try another until you find a "clean" one.

I was in the Walmart Supercenter in Avon and the last several trips we have
used our FMRS radios and have had a real bad time using our radios due to
the Walmart staff using the FMRS freq's to conduct Walmart store operations,
I thought this was illegal for the FMRS Freq's or am I missing something.

If I am missing something, would someone please supply me with the correct
  information.

  Thanks
