Might scan Indy Tower on 120.9 and (and I think 250.3). IMS is
restricted air space, of course. Within its airspace you should find
fixed wing aircraft on 126.07 and airships on 118.67. You'll have some
warning of when the flyover occurs because they'll empty the skies on
those freqs.
You'd think after all these years I'd have heard something from the
aircraft themselves. They surely must be talking amongst themselves
somewhere between 250-380 MHz. If they do any practice runs today I'll
try to listen for them.
On Armed Forces day I noticed my house was shaking so I walked outside
and quickly punched up 120.9 on my HT. After a few moments
Hurricane-15, a MH-53 (I think MH-53E "Sea Dragon") took off, made a
couple laps around the track, did a vertical climb, fell back into the
track, and screamed off toward Raytheon's lot. I snapped a few shots
with my digital camera but it's field of view is just too wide to be
useful beyond a few feet.
