After 9/11, Purdue University fenced off and shut down
a number of areas that are within their sphere of
influence and as your email suggests, stating openly
that security concerns were the reason. In fact, some
of those areas have been known trouble spots for
years, particularly the "gravel pit" where a number
of satellite dishes for the campus are located.
