FYI as to my earlier post.
Here is info from Tom Swisher via the
All Ohio Scanner Club List.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All;
I have just been informed by a reliable source at
Radio Shack that they are currently working on the fix
to allow the Pro-96 to receive QPSK-C modulation. The
reason the radio does not now include it is that Radio
Shack/GRE had been told by Motorola that QPSK-C would
not be in use until late 2004, and capability for it
was expected to be a flash upgrade for the Pro-96.
The radios *are* flashable, but there is no time frame
for availability of the flash upgrade. Options include
in-store upgrade, or user upgrade via a flash
downloaded from a web page. Nothing has yet been
decided as to which release option (or both) will be
chosen, or if there will be a cost for this upgrade.
If the user does the flash then obviously a
programming cable will be needed. This cable will also
program the radio, and Scancat-Light software will be
available in stores for $29.95. This software will be
upload/download capable, and will also allow reading
from a radio of one brand and writing to a different
radio of another brand.
So, all is not lost for the Pro-96!
Also, a post on Trunkedradio.Net by Jeff of The Ham
Station indicated that the forthcoming BC-x96 Uniden
models *will* be QPSK-C compatible.
