The Allen County system has been in place for better than 6 years that I
know of... The problem they had with the city was the lack of ability to
talk to each other... Allen Co was Motorola digital P-25 3600, Ft Wayne
City was VHF... The older 800 system has been turned over to persons other
than law, fire, & ems... Wood Youth Center is currently running on the old
system and several others not engaged in law enforcement, fire, ems, ect...
Roughly 2 years ago, Fort Wayne City put up a tower and went P-25 9600 with
MDT's... At that time it was all encrypted upon installation for
everyone... If you didn't have a radio for the system, it was not
scannable... There was a huge discussion of how police agencies were hiding
things they didn't want the public to hear... Big newspaper articles on the
security of the system and the huge price tag... Most smaller agencies
could not afford to buy radios, let alone the useage fees paid to the city
radio fund... Since then they have dropped back to only digital to please
the public and the reporters... They also posted a daily log of radio
traffic on their website to please inquiring minds... The new system had
also forced fire dept users to purchase new radios or be stuck back on
VHF... Most went back to VHF for about a year, since then, most have
updated to the 800 system... The tower location was another issue back then
on the new system... The location chosen was not giving sufficient coverage
for the county and city's needs...
So, to clarify what I have confused you with...
Allen Co. and Ft Wayne City are P-25 9600 unencrypted currently with MDT's.
They share the new system with the old MO system as a backup which is also
used by non-emergency personel...
Don't hold your breath on Safe-T for anything north of Ft. Wayne... Auburn
City, Steuben County (entire) are all EDACS... Both county communication
directors have stated to the papers and everyone else, that they will not
take part in the system... There is a way to patch between systems, however
they stated it was not going to happen...
> Now I'm really confused ;> Trunkedradio.net says that Ft Wayne and Allen
> County are both the part of the same Safe-T site... You are saying that
> there is a separate system between the city and the county?
