Lafayette Journal and Courier
A $3.58 million overhaul of Tippecanoe County's police radio system =
received unanimous approval from the county council Monday evening.
The council failed to reach a quorum for a meeting scheduled that =
morning. Instead, the members gathered at the home of dairy farmer David =
Byers that evening to allow him to finish milking the cows, while =
ensuring a quorum and a quick start to the project.
The contract with Motorola will replace analog technology with digital =
equipment to reduce signal interference. The county's radio system was =
constructed in 1989, and some of the equipment is too old to be replaced =
if it breaks, E-911 officials say. The upgrade also will bring Purdue =
University police on the same radio frequency as the other police =
agencies in the county. Construction could begin in late July or early =
August.
