Probably it is that they are using aircraft with grant money similar to, or
even operation pullover and doing aerial speed checks with the white lines
painted in the roads.  Its about the end of the year and there may be money
left in the air fund.  Of course we are talking the state, I may be wayyyy
off here.  But, a calculation of speed can be made by time and distance.
Really easy to do from the air and normally done in main interstate roads.
You will usually hear them referred to as "plane 1" or "copter 1" on the
police radio if your close enough.  Air traffic is easier to hear since the
line of sight to your antenna is better.  You may not hear the car respond
to the plane.  Since they are also limited on hours per month to fly, I
would see it fair to say it may last about 2 hours at most.  A DUI grant
shift at our department last for 4 hours on the road.
