As others pointed out it's unlawful to listen to telephones:
cordless, cell, etc.  Punishable by up to $75,000 fine.

Besides, the old analog phone band has been all but abandoned for
years in most areas.  What with these new fangled spread spectrum
phones on 1.9 GHz and such.  For a few years analog roaming was
available on some phones but I'd be surprised if that's an option
or even needed these days.
