I was told by a Sheriff's Deputy while walking around
the apartment complex in which I live that it is
illegal to carry it on you in public.

The law SAYS that this is correct. They are able to
issue a "permit."

The Deputy told me it'd be no problem to get a permit
by going to the Sheriff's Office in Albion. When I
went there Communications Director Mitch Fiandt told
be he doesn't issue permits to regular
citizens...needless to say, I still have no permit...

It is legal to carry it with you if you have a Ham
license...

You are allowed to use it at home and at work
according to the statute. All I do to transport is
remove the antennae and put it in my lunchbox out of
my reach...
