I have a feeling that I may know what your particular issue may be... I
have seen a few (actually several) of the 94's with poor solder jobs on the
antenna connector inside the radio (as well as earphone and power jacks)...
If it is not under warranty and you would like to tackle it, open the case
to the radio... This is done by 4 screws in the back case... 2 external
and 2 in the battery compartment area... Open the unit and basically
dissassemble the boards from the main case... You must be careful to unplug
the speaker by the white connection on the boards, don't pull on those
fragile wires... The volume knob, squelch, and antenna connector must be
removed from the top as well, so you can move things out of the case...
This should get you enough room to get into the unit to resolder the center
wire properly... If it looks good and secure, that is not your particular
problem... Look at all of the visible solder joints and connections...
That seems to be the most popular repair done at the centers... "Repaired
bad solder connection "between point A and point B...
NOW, if its under warranty, send it in by all means... The repair centers
not only repair the connections, they tune and tweak each one... You will
have a unit that is known to be as sensitive as possible...
Option B, you may have a dud for an antenna... Try one from a friend if
possible... Or take the unit to the store, find a distant weather channel
and try a different antenna from a display radio... See if that helps or
changes anything...
Otherwise, if the batteries are charged, it looks as if it may be off
frequency and require professional help... There is really no serviceable
parts inside...
I hope this helps...
