SSB, or single side band is a different "mode" of
communications. Mostly heard on HF, or Ham bands, it
is used for long distance communications. Using only
part of the carrier wave, which is suppressed, it
doesnt take as much power to push the signal further
from the transmitter. At least this has always been my
understanding of SSB.
