300.400 MHz - FM - Started hearing continuous FM carrier. "BIG PLAY"
was transmitting to "BILLY CLUB", only one side of conversation heard.
Carrier continuously transmitted for approximately 15 minutes while
various topics were discussed. Source of transmission was airborne. They
switched to frequency "3". Tried GEP A/C channel 3 (362.150 MHz) but
aircraft was not heard. Quick sweeps of the entire 225-400 MHz spectrum
did not result in the re-acquiring of the aircraft's signal which was
nearly full-scale on the Icom R8500 connected to a Diamond discone at
20'.
I was not aware the old GEP system was still in use. The signal was
definitely airborne, and was one side of an FM full-duplex circuit.
Items discussed during the transmissions has led me to believe it was
possibly an E4B (NAOC) or a VIP SAM flight.=20
Has anyone heard much on the GEP frequencies in the past year or so? Any
clues to the callsigns "BIG PLAY" or "BILLY CLUB"?
