As I stated in my March 13th post, I kept quiet about police simplex for
quite some time because I enjoyed listening. My attitude changed when they
began to interfere with licensed users. While there are many "responsible"
police simplex users, I cannot condemn some and exempt others. It is all or
nothing.
Why have I only mentioned cops? Let us look at the statistics:
86 frequencies confirmed police abuse
0 frequencies confirmed business abuse
1 frequency confirmed amateur abuse (Two policemen who are both hams were
on 153.980 on 02/02/2002 01:30. One asked the other to go to 147.420, so I
followed them there to listen.)
To paraphrase Dave: No one has singled out the police, they have singled out
themselves.
Out of 1,774 frequency entries in my monitoring notes, I have logged a total
of 8 frequencies that potentially have business abusers, none of which I
have been able to positively identify. With the possible exception of the
repeater on 151.625, I have never heard business abusers interfere with
licensed users, unlike the police. The few police who have not been told by
their superiors to stop have certainly heard from those who have, and now
know what they are doing is not on the level. To believe otherwise is
foolish.
While I do not claim to catch everything in Marion county, I do not miss
much either. If anyone has found any suspect frequencies I have not found
yet, I am sure several on the mailing list would be interested in them,
including me.
I also stated in my March 13th post that I am not interested in seeing
anyone prosecuted, only that the abuse stop. If I did have a "beef" or
wanted to "play FCC cop" I would contact Reilly Hollingsworth at the FCC.
