[ScanIndiana] Scanner Law & Stuff

Great Comments Andy. The Indiana scanner law has
many loopholes in it. Just pick out one, say the
"newsman" line, and declare yourself a "roving
reporter". You can get reporters ID's from the
various news organizations by signing on with
them. Of course you will not get paid much.

About taking the scanner into the race tracks. If
the cops want to get technical they could arrest
anybody having a scanner on their person. But it
has to be in plain sight! So put your scanners in
a lunch bag, back pack, or in your underwear when
going from the car to the track. Once back on the
streets you have to hide it again. In the car you
take a chance unless you take the battery out.
The law reads "capable of receiving......" so no
battery no receiving! Be safe and lock it in the
trunk and take out the battery. Indiana has many
towns and speed traps around run by "marshals"
that will not hesitate to run you in for any
reason.

If you are a ham do not let your wife or kids
drive the vehicle with your ham gear in it unless
you are with them.....the radios belong to the
ham, not the car. This happened to a father of a
young ham operator. The lad left the radios in
the car when dropped off at school. The dad got a
ticket for speeding and lost the radio case in
court for having "police type" radios in his
possession.

Ahhhh... I just love the slogan....."To Protect
and Serve"......serve who?! W9FPJ
