MEDIA ADVISORY: LT. GOVERNOR ARUNA MILLER, MARYLAND STATE POLICE TO
CELEBRATE 55 YEARS OF AVIATION SECTION
(BOWIE, MD) – Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller, Maryland State Police
Superintendent Colonel Michael A. Jackson, State Aeromedical Director Dr.
Douglas Floccare, and other honored guests will celebrate 55 years of
medevac, law enforcement, search and rescue, homeland security, and
disaster assessment services provided by Aviation Section Trooper 2 based
at Joint Base Andrews in Prince George’s County.
Trooper 2, formerly known as Helicopter Two, was established in 1971 as the
second helicopter to patrol the entire state and transport critically
injured patients by helicopter. To date, the Maryland State Police
Aviation Command has transported more than 165,000 patients, thus earning
itself a worldwide reputation as a leader in pre-hospital trauma care and
MedEvac.
The Aviation Command is proud to be a part of not only the Maryland State
Police but also a part of the Maryland fire, rescue, and EMS family. The
Command is one part of an incredible system of first responders, nurses,
doctors, and trauma centers that are integrated into an amazing network
that saves lives in Maryland every day.

*B-ROLL: Trooper 2, one of the Department’s ten AW139 helicopters, will be
on static display and available for video and photography opportunities.
Aviation Command personnel will be available to discuss the aircraft’s
capabilities and mission profile. Flight crew members will also be
available for media interviews following the program.*
