Thanks, Andy.  I don’t know why some folks use cryptic titles with no details and expect others to understand what they are saying.  I grew up in NYC and became a ham when I was 16.  Lafayette Electronics and Radio Shack were my main parts suppliers when I built or fixed my rigs.  I would occasionally go down to Radio Row in lower Manhattan, but they weren’t overly friendly to young people.  My first scanner was from RS - they were fairly easy to program and were in a time when few (if any) people had PCs.  Now my iPhone has an unbelievable amount computing power and memory compared to my Timex Sinclair and later my Commodore 64.  What I liked about Radio Shack was that they were very helpful knowledgeable.  I had no idea that any were left.
