Second call out to those with older scanners who might want them repaired.
I will give a free estimate when you send me pics of the issue if its the
LCD display or if it has other problems. I have replaced the backlights in
PRO-2006's and LED backlights in older Uniden's. Some issues are simply
cracked solder joints or "witches hats" that are hard to find unless you
have the tools. I recently bought one of these for working on stuff.

You might consider one if you need to do repairs yourself. Some scanners
age well and can be sold on Ebay if in good condition. These include Radio
Shack PRO-2004, 2005, 2006 and other wide-band models, Uniden 3000XLT,
9000XLT, PRO-92's, PRO-97's and other handhelds that have 500 to 1000
channels.
You could put the entire T-MARC repeater listing for all VHF/UHF bands in a
PRO-92. I can also replace worn out keypads on base or handhelds if they
are still available from Uniden. Will also do IF output mods on certain
models if applicable. Dedicating an old HT or Base scanner to Aircraft or
HAM frequencies is a way to still use it in today's digital age. VDOT still
uses low-band VHF FM on 47 Mhz for snow vehicles during the winter months
etc.
