[Scan-DC] FCC Announces Official Change in Headquarters Location

Dewey & Ed:
Mid to Late 60's SOD was in a one story building at 5720 Georgia Ave NW. (West side of Georgia.) The cars were kept in fenced yard in back, not visible from the street, No markings on building and the windows were heavily caged.  I think this was a holdover from the riots. I think they left shortly before I did in 1971.  Now I think it is a furniture store.
I worked for Huntemann's Ambulance (& Funeral Home) next door at 5732.
North toward Missouri from there was Posin's market next door to us and then the car wash and then DCFD Engine 22, Truck 11.

Well, Dewey, if you don't remember I doubt anyone else will.

I'm almost positive that SOD was on the south side of the unit block of L NE during the years I was a reserve, 1974-77. Thinking further, however, it may have been another DC government facility in a 1 story (?) building.

Stay well,

Ed

Ed, you've really put me on the spot... now I can't remember where SOD was before they moved to 2301 L St, across the circle from GW Hospital.  I want to say that they spent some time in the 1600 block of L Street where USSS was (?still there?), but there was a spot before that as well.  I do know in the '80's - at least through 2005, ERT was near the 45 L St NE location, but they were actually around the corner on 2nd St NE, just up from Union Station.

That entire area was renamed to NoMa (north of Mass Ave) shortly after the NY & FL Aves Metro Station was built and opened, and just about every non-home building in the area has been rebuilt from the ground up.  The Coliseum (Uline Arena) escaped the wrecking ball, but even it was still completely refreshed.

It seems to me, back in the 1970s, that was MPDC’s SOD headquarters...or right across the street from it. Anyone here old enough to remember.....Dewey?
