[Scan-DC] question

In the communication center ALL radio traffic is recorded digitally. It is immaterial to the recorder if a channel is encrypted or in the clear. ALL radio traffic is recorded except for simplex traffic which is rarely used anymore. The simplex traffic can't be recorded due to the limited range of the traffic, think in terms of unit to unit traffic the range of a walkie talkie or CB radio if using a car transmitter.

Subject: [Scan-DC] question

I just saw this article on foxnews.com:

"Louisville city officials must turn over all secure police radio conversations before, during and after a March raid that led to the police shooting death of Breonna Taylor, a judge ruled Wednesday."

If their transmissions are encrypted, do the police record the unencrypted version?

Thanks,
