Yes thank you that is exactly the clarification I was looking for. I've been listening to DCFD more recently when I am at work since i don't live int he metro area.

I re-read your question and may not have covered what you’re looking for:
Unencrypted "channels" in MWCOG zone "Zero" (DCFD) are "0 - zero" and "A - alpha" channels (Exceptions are Zero-13, Zero-14, Alpha-13 and Alpha-14" which are encrypted)
"B" channels "Zero-Bravo-3, 7, etc." are all encrypted.
"H" channels (Hospital consult) in Zone "0" are not encrypted.
Radio Reference has a decent chart describing the channel maps for "Zone 0" (DCFD), and which are encrypted or not encrypted.

Subject: RE: [Scan-DC] DCFD Radio zones
Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG) Trunked radio system "zones" are mapped as follows:
0 - Washington, DC
1 - Arlington County
2 - City of Alexandria
3 - Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority
4 - Fairfax County
5 - Prince William County
6 - Loudoun County
7 - Montgomery County
8 - Prince George's County
9 - Frederick County
Trunked radio systems participating in the MWCOG plan operate with equipment that is able to access "any" MWCOG zone.
In DC, the radios are "defaulted" to "zone 0" In Montgomery County, radios are "defaulted" to "zone 7." This is coincidental to unit numbering. Montgomery County Fire units prefix with "7" PG FD units prefix with "8"
The DC prefixes is "0", and is the only jurisdiction that was not required to "renumber" their units to the MWCOG radio zone plan. However, you will hear the prefix when dispatch assigns TAC (working) channels, IE; " switch to Zero-Three" or "switch to Zero-Bravo-7"
On a radio that participates in the MWCOG plan, selecting zone to "0" on a radio will access DC, Selecting zone "1" will access Arlington.
You are welcomed to direct reply me if you need further clarification or explanation.

Can someone explain to me what the zones are? Is dcfd using zone 00 and channels line incident 10 etc? I was reading past posts on radioreference and I was confused what changed after encryption was turned off.
