Although not movies, how about these television series from the '70s?  I
remember a scanner being used in the television series 'Kolchak: The Night
Stalker' with Darren McGavin as a Chicago news reporter who used his scanner
to investigate strange police calls.  Also, how about the opening scene of
the original SWAT television series with a Radio Shack scanner running in
scan mode?
