**I have a much better idea.  Except for having to create one profile
and one favorite list and if you must select whatever from RR files, end
the grief and frustration before you get "mousetrapped", frustrated and
things get worse.  It can happen fast.  It is easy to have a problem
updating a file in the 536.  I screwed up last Friday trying to change
the name of a new spare FL. I was in a hurry.  The 536 would not
recognize what I had just created as a valid new 536 "FL-98" file.  I
had done this 99 times before and could not understand what I had done
wrong,...actually what I had failed to do. I finally realized what the
mistake was. I knew better.  For a new DMR trs with no talkgroups hit
yet, I had to create a "dummy" talkgroup record entry.  Uniden now
requires one from a list of valid "service types" or "custom". The
default type I use is "Aircraft" because it's first one listed as a
selection.  No completed "Service Type" data field entry no workie.  I
did the file write again and this time "FL-98 DMR Test Site
Williamsburg" was accepted as a new FL Quick Key and worked fine.  This
error on my part also has been entered into my long term memory.  The
536 is not forgiving. **
**
**I stopped using that !@#$!@#6 Sentinel Software enhanced MS DOS
software circa 995 the same day I installed Butel's ARC536PRO software.
Uniden and Whistler were greedy regarding the 436/536. They refused to
allow third party vendors to provide software which probably would
retire  Sentinel Software to the outdated software archives.  So now
Uniden forces the user to have to use Sentinel Software for firmware
updates and if you use the RRDB import and update the USA DB, etc.   If
you love using Sentinel Software, fine.  But please do not email me
gushing about how much you love it.  That's terrific fopr you but I
don't.  If someone has only eaten hamburgers and never a good steak,
then hamburgers are all he has with which to compare the beef source.**
**
**I tried to use the Uniden software but what an embarrassment.  How
primitive!  I knew there had to a better simpler way.  My situation was
I had 25,000 max entries for my 996XLT(s) and in the 536 I created the
maximum 99 Favorite' Lists, i.e., "folders".  As mentioned,
ARC436/536PRO recognized the required 1 profile/1 Favorite List and then
goodbye and good riddance to Sentinel Software.  I never looked back
except for a possible firmware update check.  With ARC5356PRO I was able
to import all my 996XLT files, copy and paste as appropriate, then
delete the appropriate imported XLT file and customize each of the 95
out of 99 Favorites lists I programed. I had 6 FLs left as spares for
special monitoring/testing DMR systems of interest.**
**
**Another neat thing about ARC536PRO (only) is it supports a Vitural
Control screen display which logs all the basic info, NAC, etc and can
be saved as a cvs file.  New DMR talkgroups display with only the number
until you add them as to the user' ids.  I did not like the way Uniden
had it's file levels identified.  So, for a MOTOTRBO (DMR) system or
TRS, using Favorite List 1 as an example, My highest level (system) is
"FL-01", the next level is "FS-01" (site) and the lowest level is
"TG-01"(Talkgroups).  It works great for me and is easier to locate
whatever. **
**
**I will not write a tutorial on the internet or PM help but if you PM
me I will help you by PHONE ONLY if you have the same software baseline
I have and use the same organizational header levels as I do, which had
the purpose of making things as simple as possible. If you don't like my
scheme, then use your own.  The 536 is the most RF sensitive scanner
Uniden has made to date.  I had the DMR upgrade.  I soon will do the
NXDN upgrade.  But the 536 is not perfect.  As with any digital scanner
it has its' quirks.  But it works great with GPS.  I DO NOT USE LOCATION
based scanning.  I did use it for locating my lat/long but that's all.
You will have two files when successfully creating a Profile and a
Favorites List.  One is "hpe" profile? and the other "hpd"..Favorites
Lists.  ARC536PRO when recognizing a valid 536 initial file uses only
the "hpd" Favorite's List's files.**You also can set up for UID display.
Unfortunately, the ARC996XLTs are the last scanners which provide raw
data for PRO96COM.  I although I will buy another 536 and update it, I
will not sell of my XLTs although they are RF input less sensitive.
Check out "MarksScanners" for the 436/536 and gleam what you can from
his discussions.
**
**Hope this helps.  Good Luck.*
