[Scan-DC] Scanning in the Washington Post

Yeah, but some of the comments are really funny and ignorant.  Like the ones assuming that people who listen to scanners live in their basements and have no lives.  I do find that my scanning activities have decreased greatly as there is much less to listen to post encryption.  As a ham radio operator, I have all local repeaters programmed and, on many days, there’s more ham activity than public activity.  

I heartily agree with one of Alan’s statements from an earlier post that the encryption has been hastened by the availability of phone apps that allow anyone with a phone to “listen in.”  We, as scanner enthusiasts, were a tiny group.  Now there are hundreds of millions of people with cell phones that can listen in with apps.  It is scary from that perspective.
