I don't ride VRE. When I listen to trains, I have only about ten channels in my railroad bank that I listen to. This is on a Sportcat 180. Hey, it works. I have AAR 96, 161.550, as my priority channel. I listen primarily in Alexandria. I mean, I could use one of those old tunable RS radios from the late '60s - early '70s, find 161.550 on the dial, and Scotch tape the dial in place. For me, 161.550 is one-stop shopping. I say this only to point out that I am not an expert.

RR says that Amtrak uses 160.680 for the Autotrain, and even then, only at Lorton. I gather that once it's on the road, it switches to an Amtrak frequency. I assume that for comms with the CSX dispatcher in Jacksonville, the traincrew would use mostly 161.550.
I can hear about five miles out, but Lorton is too far for me to confirm any use down that way.
I can't offer anymore than that.

Is anyone that rides VRE able to confirm that
VRE uses 160.680 and if what
they use it for?
