Montgomery County Selects AT&T's ESInet Service

Thursday, August 23, 2018 | Comments

Montgomery County, Maryland, selected AT&T’s emergency services IP network
(ESInet) for 9-1-1 communications. The county joined others in the National
Capital Region (NCR) in selecting the service from AT&T.

The solution gives 9-1-1 call-takers enhanced tools to speed their
responsiveness and boost reliability to those in emergencies, a statement
said. The IP-based call routing service uses i3 standards from the National
Emergency Number Association (NENA) to modernize decades-old 9-1-1
infrastructure.

The technology will allow the county to provide more targeted response and
help save time and improve outcomes, handle unexpected call volumes, apply
rules to support specific events such as political rallies or campus
events, maintain service during a natural or man-made disaster and improve
incident awareness.

In the future, Montgomery County public-safety answering points (PSAPs)
will be able to support pictures and videos sent via text message.
