Slope tuning is only used to tune narrow FM transmissions using an AM 
receiver. Often it will work somewhat well.

The reverse does not generally work.  Some narrow FM radios will receive 
AM stations poorly either due to the poor modulation of the transmitter 
or poor design of the receiver.  However, trying to due that with a wide 
FM receiver is not going to work or work very poorly at best.
