- *Briefing on unmanned aircraft systems (drones)*
The PS Committee will be briefed on the use of unmanned aircraft systems
(UAS) by County public safety agencies. Many public safety agencies around
the nation are beginning to use UAS for public safety.
The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS), the Montgomery
County Police Department (MCPD), and the Office of Emergency Management and
Homeland Security (OEMHS) are in the process of researching the use of UAS
in their public safety applications. They have established a UAS Capability
Development Workgroup to discuss required equipment and all issues
regarding the equipment and its use. DOCR also has researched the use of
UAS for applications such as perimeter security, but has not yet moved
forward with implementation. The Sheriff’s Office has not considered
potential UAS use.
