[Scan-DC] Antennas on two-man bobsleds at the Olympics

I've been watching the two-man bobsledding at the Olympics. There seems to be a stubby antenna mounted on the nose of each bobsled, regardless of which country's sled it is. The antenna is more or less directly above the feet of the lead man in the sled. It is about three inches long. What data are being sent or received or collected? The athletes don't have time to talk on a radio, and does it matter what the speed is?

Thanks.
