[Scan-DC] Is GRE still around and Whistler upgrades

For those that may not know, GRE still has their webpage with all the
links for their respective radios here (hopefully this URL won't be
messed up - if it is, I apologize in advance)

http://www.greamerica.com/

Now how long that page will remain up is anyone's guess. I'd strongly
suggest downloading what you can if you have one of these radios and
storing it away

Re the Whistler upgrade; it's no longer 'conjecture' as one previous
poster put it. It's been happening now for a couple of months, and there
are threads in the GRE and Whistler forums at

RadioReference. As I understand it, you get back a radio with the 1088
firmware and DSP loaded; the front of the radio won't be changed. Note
that this works with the PSR-800, RS Pro-668 and

RS Pro-18, and the radios MUST be in good working order for the update
to be applied. It loads the ability to decode Phase 2 (for those that
don't have it) and DMR/Mototrbo. By the way

we have a definition article for DMR in the RR Wiki, viz..

http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/DMR

http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/MOTOTRBO

Adding NXDN on top of this is not possible, according to some
experiments that have already been done on this, due to memory limits.
And as has already been mentioned, I think, the old EZ Scan GRE software
and iScan software from RS can no longer be used if you perform this
upgrade. You MUST use the Whistler tools, and they can be found here...
