[Scan-DC] SAM 28000

Coincidentally, I was standing on a small strip of beach in Chesapeake Beach, MD, for about 5 minutes late Saturday evening, at the exact moment AF1 (presumably 29000) came in low and slow over the bay on its way to Andrews. Completely unplanned spotting. Trump had left Hamburg 8 hours earlier. That was pretty cool to catch by accident.


BTW, the beach I was on is about one mile down from the Naval Research Lab's Chesapeake Beach detachment. They have some enormous antennas and radomes there. One of the setups looked like an HF over-the-horizon arrangement. Yuge.

        OK, you mean Pease ?  or Westover ?

        Curious as to where you mean by sleepy NE ANG base...

        However, I did see news footage of the departure from Hamburg
and the G20 to fly home to Andrews that clearly showed BOTH VC25s on the
tarmac with the POTUS leaving in the first plane to depart.   They did
not show the departure of the backup, news coverage rarely does.

        This is normal for big international trips... they almost always
fly both VC25s and it is usual for the backup plane to leave last.  And
unlike domestic travel with the backup often staging quietly at a nearby
military base different from the often civilian one the primary plane
with the POTUS on it lands at, on many international trips both planes
are used to carry staff and fly to the same airports.

        AFAIK, the VC25s are rarely used by other VIPs - it would not
be normal for this to happen... the backup VC25 is generally reserved
for the POTUS only.

        I know the POTUS was heloed to the WH after return from the G20...
and believe he is there at the moment.
