    Montgomery County CERT Training
    Hello Nextdoor Community:

I have received a few inquiries on ways that you can help make
your communities more resilient and prepared for an emergency
situation. I wanted to share an opportunity for you to do so by
joining Montgomery County’s Community Emergency Response Team
(C.E.R.T.). As part of Montgomery County’s Fire Rescue Service,
CERT serves the community by helping to teach residents how to be
prepared for disasters (great and small), providing support to
community efforts, and as trained individuals prepare to step up
when the need arises to help fellow community members.

Montgomery County’s enhanced CERT training course will prepare you
for common emergencies situations and the hazards and disasters
    that may impact the DC Metro area. The course is five weeks long;
including approximately 32 hours of instruction and hands on
exercises. The Winter 2017 Course will start on Wednesday,
February 22 and will wrap up with a final practical exercise on
Saturday, March 25, 2017. The course will be held in
Gaithersburg, MD on Wednesday evenings from 7 PM – 9 PM and
Saturday mornings from 9 AM – 1 PM. All Montgomery County CERT
trainings are at NO COST to the participant, other than the
participant’s commitment and desire to learn. To attend the CERT
basic training, you must be at least 18 yrs. old, and have an ID,
which will be required to enter the facility where the class is
    held.

This course covers the FEMA CERT training material which includes
fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and
disaster response. Additionally, this course includes CPR/AED
    training and certification.

    Other topics covered are:
    • Disaster Preparedness
    • First Aid, Personal Protection, and CPR /AED
    • Mass Casualty Response and Triage / Disaster Medical
    Operations
    • FRS Radio Use
