Christmas has come early for railfans this year. The Federal Railroad Administration has been seeking comments regarding a requirement that railroads implement a positive train control (PTC) signaling system.

In response, Amtrak has submitted quite a few usually internal documents. Among them are the Northeast Corridor (NEC) timetable and the Northeast Operating Rules Advisory Committee (NORAC) rulebook. There are also track charts, a "training radio maintainer" manual, a "wayside radio programming" manual, and much, much more. See: https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=FRA-2010-0029-0070.

There are 72 packets submitted to the docket. This one packet from Amtrak contains dozens of documents. I downloaded only the NEC timetable (nearly 400 pages long) and the NORAC rulebook (the 2011 version).

You can find these at Regulations.gov. The docket number is FRA-2010-0029. Start here: https://www.regulations.gov/docket?D=FRA-2010-0029.

Everything is free for the asking. You don't need a password.

Is this a great country, or what?
