[Scan-DC] Propagation Question

I realize this is not a ham radio list, but many of the people on it are hams as well as folks interested in scanning (as I am).

Over the past few days the HF ham bands seem to have been totally dead during the day.  Occasionally a very weak signal would surface on 40 meters, but nothing really in the way of CW or SSB.  I checked with several different receivers using different antennas and the results have been the same.  Basically nothing on any band.  That's expected for 160 and 80 during the day in the Summer, but 40 always seemed to have some chatter, as did 30, 20 and 17.

Can anyone corroborate this?  Or is Reston in a black hole 😱.
