AMATEUR RADIO VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR SATURDAY APRIL 30, 2016

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Triennial Airport Exercise 2016
(APEX16)

Saturday April 30, 2016

7:30 AM - 12:00 PM

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority
(MWAA) has tasked Arlington County Virginia Amateur Radio Emergency Service
(ARES) to provide communications support to their FAA mandated triennial
emergency exercise on Saturday April 30, 2016 from 7:30 AM through 12:00 PM

The exercise scenario involves an A-320 aircraft is hit by an object while
approaching RWY 1 and collides with a US Coast Guard Helicopter and then
crashes into the riverbank off the end of Runway 4 and is a full scale
exercise planned for
4 hours to test response, triage and transport of patients to area
hospitals as well as search and rescue involving multiple agencies.

Arlington County Virginia Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) Is
providing communications support for the exercise at the airport and at
area hospitals.

ARES operators should report to Hangar 7 no later than 7:30 AM. Free
parking is provided in parking lot B located directly across the street
from Hangar 7. Place your parking pass on the dashboard.

Start of Exercise (STARTEX) is at 9:00 AM.

Talk-in will be on the W4WVP 145.470 repeater.

MWAA will provide lunch, (hotdogs/hamburgers, chips and a drink) to all
exercise participants, starting at 11:00 AM. Amateur radio support should
be finished by 12:00 -12:30 PM at the latest.

End of Exercise (ENDEX) is at 12:00 PM.

ARES operators will provide communications support by staffing various
locations around the airport, on vehicles used to transport moulaged
patients to area hospitals, and at the area hospitals themselves.

Operators will report to net control the departure time of the buses from
the airport, a head count of patients on board, arrival time of the buses
at the hospitals, the departure time of the buses back to the airport along
with a departing headcount.

All volunteers should have proper attire for the weather. Be sure to bring
a hat, water, sunscreen and of course, your dual band VHF/UHF radios,
batteries, and extra batteries.

The disaster site net and primary net frequency will be 146.520 simplex. We
will also be using the W4WVP 145.470(-)(PL 107.2) and W4HFH 147.315 (+)(PL
107.2) repeaters for this event.

Email Gary Sessums at <kc5qcn at arrl.net> if you would like to volunteer to
participate or have any questions about the exercise.
