VSP changed its report to the suspect was still alive, had a pulse, but was
in critical condition. Per the 12:00 broadcast on WDBJ (great station for
news, despite what they are going through they have remained very
professional), the shooter was a former reporter at the station who was
fired (and escorted from the building by police) several years ago due to
"anger issues." From what has been pieced together, Flanagan rented the
Chevy at the Roanoke airport, drove to Smith Mountain Lake where the live
broadcast was, and opened fire on the reporter and cameraman, filming it as
he did it. He then fled the scene and was tracked by cell phone pings.
