[Scan-DC] Getting back into the hobby

I haven't spent much time listening for years,  but I'd like to start
again.  My local Radio Shack still has some stock including the PRO 652.

With encryption being more and more common, what is still worth listening
to ?  I know I can get air and amateur radio,  but what else is out there?

What is a good choice for a scanner to get started again ?
