[Scan-DC] Radio Shack going.

No surprise here. Radio Shack has been on financial "life support" for
over two years using "emergency" joint investor's funds which finally
ended.. The RS decline had been increasing over the past 10+ years when
RS top management decided they wanted to expand their product lines, be
a Circuit City and Best Buy "wannabe" and get out of the scanner
business. RS also faced increasing competition from the internet for
electronic parts, etc.

Remember when RS decided to get out of the scanner business with private
labeling by GRE? Uniden only had few nationwide walk in stores where a
potential customer could see and purchase radio analog/digital
scanners. However, RS had over 2,000 stores. Then when GRE digital
scanners were selling like hotcakes RS top management realized they had
screwed up and asked GRE to again start manufacturing scanners for them
meanwhile scrambling trying to obtain and sell Uniden digital scanners.
The reactivation of GRE scanners private labeling did not happen as GRE
went out of business not too long afterward.

This is another monument partially to bad top management and also
changing times in technology and the culture as most home electronic
construction projects peaked and dwindled years ago.

Most of the RS stores are company owned and many will be leased or sold
to Sprint.
