It is a new firebox numbering system that has been adopted by the NOVA Region.
This has been done due to new CAD Systems and their ability to recognize
mutual boxes. Alexandria had to change and has changed first due to the
addition of new stations making their 54, 58 series of boxes not possible
for their 11th station (would go to a theoretical 60-- box which belongs to
Loudoun). This new firebox numbering system has the first two digits
identifying the jurisdiction (1-Arlington, 2- Alexandria, etc.), the second
two for the station (05 or 26 or ...) and the last two digits identifying
the station box. Other jurisdictions will be following suit shortly such as
Fairfax County which has renumbered their boxes.
Hope this helps.
