good point... having lived here this long, it never dawned on me - I never really thought about whether the airpark would impact the value of my place either way... lots of new development between it and me now and I think that won't help any, with this new county thing opening soon... traffic on sn school road will certainly increase.

Yes and of course they forget that a similar house not next to a somewhat adverse use would have cost them more.

- houses there were built in the 1980s... people interviewed are already yelling about the airpark.

This came up on another list I'm on, where some Roanoke County residents had filed suit against Appalachian Power and Norfolk Southern because APCO had cut down trees in their right of way (between the railroad and the back yards). The residents complained that the power line that was built was unsightly and the lack of trees made the trains visible (and increased the coal dust landing on their houses). They tried to change things based on an adverse condemnation. NS kicked it to the Surface Transportation Board, which ruled that interstate commerce (plus the fact that the railroad was there long before the subdivision) trumped local and state laws.

Bottom line is how it is interesting how people are blindfolded and forced at gunpoint to buy houses next to railroads, airports, farms, etc. Once they see where they are (next to something that existed long before their arrival), they complain and want things changed, removed, or shut down.
